Highland Industrial Supplies Sutherland Cup Final - Fort William vs Kinlochshiel
Andrew MacKenzie Interview
Shinty’s premier reserve side will be crowned next Saturday, as Fort William, who last won the competition in 2009, take on a Kinlochshiel side chasing their first triumph since 1977. Ahead of the game we spoke to Kinlochshiel captain Andrew MacKenzie.
Andrew, it’s Fort William in the HIS Sutherland Cup final – how are you feeling ahead of the game?
Feeling excited ahead of the game and looking forward to it!
You reached the final after a 3-2 win over Glen Urquhart – how well do you think the boys have done to make it to this stage?
The boys have done extremely well, especially the younger ones who have stepped up when we have needed them with having a couple injuries in our team.
What do you make of Fort William as a team?
Fort William have a strong squad and will be a challenge for us.
Jay MacRae has hit 6 goals so far in the cup this season – how important a player will he be in the final, and how far do you think he can go in the game?
Jay Macrae, who has showed he is capable of a goal when we need it, is a hard working lad and it shows on the pitch. He will be an important player for us.
Duncan MacLeod and Doe MacRae were both in members of the squad when Kinlochshiel last lifted the cup in 1977 – along with Ross MacMillan, how important is this experience in leading the squad?
Duncan, Doe and Ross’s experience is what we need as a team on the sideline and to keep us going on the pitch – especially as we are a very young squad the older heads are invaluable.
Watch the final live!
