Mowi Game of the Week - Ardnamurchan vs Dunadd
Abbey Anderson Interview
Two of the Mowi WCA National Division title contenders will come together this Sunday in a bid to gain the early momentum in the title race as Ardnamurchan welcome Dunadd. We spoke to Dunadd’s Abbey Anderson ahead of the big game.
Dunadd made a strong start with an 8-3 win over Strathspey, and you got on the scoresheet twice. How much confidence does that give you going into Sunday’s match?
Sunday’s match was a really enjoyable game to play in. We played really good shinty, looked strong, and it definitely gave us a boost. However, going into Sunday’s match against Ardnamurchan, it’s a completely different team, so we can’t be complacent and assume we’re going to win. We’ll definitely need to dig in and work hard for a good result.
Ardnamurchan were also in the Premier League last season and are likely to be title contenders alongside Dunadd. What kind of challenge are you expecting from them?
Yeah, they will definitely be wanting to win this game. It’s a home game for them, and those are the ones you especially want to win. They’ll have an idea of how they want to play, but as I said, we want to win as well. It will be a matter of who wants it more on Sunday, and hopefully, Dunadd come out on top.
You won both meetings against Ardnamurchan last year—does that give Dunadd a psychological edge, or do you see this as a fresh battle?
Yeah, definitely. As well as the results went for us last year against Ardnamurchan, it’s 100% going to be a fresh battle. These are two completely different teams compared to last season, both hoping to win. We’ll need to work hard, but I believe in our team, and hopefully, we can come out on top and take the two points home.
With both teams aiming for promotion, how important is it to lay down an early marker in these head-to-head clashes?
It’s so important for us to go out and get the win on Sunday. Getting those early points in the season sets the bar, and that’s what every team hopes to do. So yeah, it’s vital that we go out on Sunday and give it our all to get the result we want.
What are Dunadd’s main strengths this season, and how do you see them making the difference on Sunday?
Our strengths this season are in every area, from our manager to our new captains, Eilidh and Ellie, who both have a lot of experience and were very vocal on Sunday, keeping heads up and making sure we gave it our all until the final whistle. I think Anna and I bring some experience as well, as we also play with Kyles Athletic, so there is definitely a lot of knowledge in the team. I thought the forward line looked really strong, scoring eight goals, and the centre worked really well feeding those balls through. The defence put in a shift, and our goalie saved us from danger at key moments. I think everyone is a brilliant player and will be hard to mark this season!
