Mowi Game of the Week - Ardnamurchan vs Dunadd
Layla Orr-MacIntyre Interview
Two of the Mowi WCA National Division title contenders will come together this Sunday in a bid to gain the early momentum in the title race as Ardnamurchan welcome Dunadd. We spoke to Ardnamurchan’s Layla Orr-MacIntyre ahead of the big game.
Ardnamurchan started the season strongly with a 6-2 win over Aberdour, and you got two goals. How pleased were you with that performance?
We had a lot of fun on the pitch, it’s always great to finish with a strong lead & take the win home which was amazing, a very buzzing journey home and proud of all the girls, a great start to the season
Dunadd also won convincingly last week and had the upper hand in this fixture last season. What do you need to do differently to get the win on Sunday?
We need to leave no time to ease in, go in hard from the start and get the goals in leaving nothing on the pitch.
Both teams were in the Premier League last year but are now likely title rivals in the National Division. How important is this early-season clash in setting the tone for the campaign?
It keeps the competitiveness up and forces both teams to prove who really wants it, early wins have boosted our confidence & boosted our motivation in wanting the win.
You took part in the Performance Camp in the USA last summer. How has that experience influenced your game now that you’re playing senior shinty?
The USA trip hugely improved my skills stripping back to basics and focusing on simple shinty which I didn’t realise how much I needed, its helped in my overall performance now moving into senior shinty.
What do you see as Ardnamurchan’s biggest strengths this season, and how can they help you overcome Dunadd this weekend?
The passion we have to rebuild the team is showing in our energy on the pitch, we know how it feels to be behind but we have a full squad of motivated, strong girls ready to defy expectations this season.
