Beauly Shinty Memories held another successful meeting on Thursday 29th October in the Church of Scotland Hall in Croyard Road where 35 people enjoyed the singing of traditional Scottish songs and bothy ballads by Sandy Thomson a retired school administrator who now lives in Maryburgh but was brought up in Laggan and played shinty for Lochaber and Kingussie in his youth. In March 2020 Sandy started writing a daily blog when the dreaded Covid came along. He had two books published of his daily diaries which are full of gentle humour and sharp observation.
After a break for tea, coffee and home baking the audience were entertained by Hamish Polson a renowned and respected retired architect in his day but probably better known in the Highland area as the leader of the Strathpeffer dance band. Hamish played for Caberfeidh in his youth and brought along his old John Macpherson caman and a winning under 17’s medal!

He now passes his time looking after his herd of champion Aberdeen Angus cattle and playing his accordion for many charity and old folks events throughout the highland area. Hamish’s masterful playing and his many stories were well received by all.
The meeting closed with a resounding thanks by all to Sandy and Hamish for their part in making the meeting so enjoyable and to the ladies of the club who provided the excellent tea and home baking at the interval.
