On Wednesday the 19th June teams from all over Scotland gathered at the Eilean, Newtonmore for the 2024 Tulloch Cup finals. Caol, Glenurquhart, Hilton, Tighnabruich, Rockfield, Kingussie, Strathpeffer and Aberdour were all in attendance after making it through their respective area qualifiers.

All teams were to play each other once, with the top two teams progressing to the final. Caol were looking to carry on their previous form, and they did just that. Winning all of their fixtures in convincing fashion Including 6-0 wins over Hilton and Aberdour, making them our first finalist.

The rest of the group were battling it out, with Kingussie and Glenurquhart looking the favourites to advance. Kingussie finished with 9 points, with Glenurquhart on 7 with a game in hand against Hilton. The game was strongly contested, with Hilton creating chances at Will. Glenurquart came into the game in the second half and were unlucky not to be leading early on thanks to a few too saves from the Hilton keeper. Glenurquart kept attacking deep into the game and they got their rewards with a last minute winner sending them into a play off against Kingussie.

The play off was set, both teams desperate to progress into the final. The match started cagey as expected with little chances for either side. Before we knew the second half was upon us and Glenurquhart started to stamp their authority on the game. A quick fire 2 goals was enough for them to fight off Kingussie to book their place in the final against top of the table Caol.

The final started cagey again, a complete opposite between these two teams in the league fixture. The middle of the park was were the action was, with both teams preventing the ball going into the forward lines. This is how the game carried on and with extra time looming we knew it would take a touch of magic to change that, and that’s exactly what we got. Caol worked the ball into the Chanel and once the ball was played into the box there was only going to be one outcome with the Caol full centre and captain on the day harry Stewart sending a thunderbolt into the roof of the net. Last minute heartbreak for Glenurquhart but delight for Caol players and supporters. The game ending 1-0 making Caol the 2024 Tulloch Cup winners.

A massive thank you goes to Newtonmore for the excellent facilities, and to the Young Badenoch referees who once again did a fantastic job.
