The Camanachd Association is delighted to announce that Craig Morrison has won the Mowi 2024 Goal of the Season award, with 44% of the vote. Morrison’s extraordinary volley during a match against Lochaber in June captivated shinty fans and earned him this prestigious accolade.
The award-winning goal was a moment of pure brilliance. A well-delivered corner from Kevin Bartlett found Morrison in the perfect position to touch the ball up, take another hit to set himself and unleash a thunderous volley, sending the ball soaring past the goalkeeper and into the net. The strike not only showcased Morrison’s technical skill but also underlined his instinctive flair for the game.
Morrison, who netted an incredible 38 goals in all competitions this season, faced tough competition for the award.
The nominees were drawn from a series of games filmed through a partnership between Highland Industrial Supplies, Mowi, and the Camanachd Association. This collaboration has brought the sport closer to its fans, highlighting the talent and dedication on display across the shinty community – something that will only be enhanced following the appointment of a new, fully funded, Digital Graduate Officer at the Association.
Craig was today presented with a Salmon from longstanding shinty sponsors Mowi.An outstanding finish scores him an outstanding fish!
Craig said:
“Absolutely delighted to get goal of the season. It’s great that people voted for me with so many goals scored this year”
“I remember we won a corner, and Kevin played a ball over the top. I thought Barry was going to get a touch on it, so I decided to stop and take a touch, and it sat up well for the volley, and I hit it and thankfully it went in!”
The Camanachd Association would like to congratulate Craig Morrison on this well-deserved achievement and thank Mowi and Highland Industrial Supplies for their continued support in showcasing the best of our game.
