It was with deep regret and great sadness that on Thursday 23rd July that we learned of the passing of Donald (Donnie) A Fraser, (Donald Ban) at Highview Care Home Inverness, after a long illness.
Donnie who was raised in Stratherrick, attended Boleskine Primary School and Inverness Royal Academy. Donnie was part of the Boleskine 1966 team squad that lifted the Sutherland Cup. On moving to Fort William, he became involved with the shinty club there, first as a player and later on as a sponsor. When he returned to Inverness to work, Donnie played for Boleskine for a couple of seasons in the late eighties.
On retiring from playing, Donnie was encouraged to take up refereeing by Willie Batchen and in 1991 refereed his first major final the MacTavish Cup. He then went on to officiate at all the major finals in shinty including the Camanachd Cup in 1995 at Oban between Kingussie and Oban Camanachd. Donnie was also President of the Camanachd Referees Association for many years and retired from refereeing in the mid two thousand’s.
Our deepest sympathies are extended to his wife Lyne, his son Ross and wider family.

Funeral Service on Friday 14th August at 11am in the Funeral Home of John Fraser & Son, Chapel Street, Inverness; thereafter to Inverness Crematorium.
