Ferguson T&S Balliemore Cup Semi Final - Inveraray vs Kilmallie
Shane O Rua Interview
Taynuilt is the venue as Kilmallie face off against Inveraray to determine who will face Lovat in the Ferguson T&S Balliemore Cup Final on the 25th July. 4 times winners Kilmallie go into the match having played just once since May and will be raring to go as they look to reach their first final since 2023. Ahead of the big match we caught up with Shane O Rua to get his thoughts.
It’s now a month since Kilmallie’s last match, will the team be raring to get back out there?
Yes! A month out of action has given us a chance to channel our energy and focus onto this week’s semi final. We’ve been training hard and I know Lewis Birrell in particular is super excited and has been losing sleep.
It’s been quite a stop start season but Kilmallie have shown that the quality is there, could reaching a national final kick start some positive momentum?
Reaching a national final would definitely give everyone a lift and momentum boost for the rest of the season. Big games like this are what you want to be involved in so hopefully it brings out the best in us.
Both fixtures last season against Inveraray resulted in a Kilmallie win, but over the last few years it’s been quite even, what do you make of them as a team?
This has become a familiar fixture for us over the years, the games have generally been close and competitive so we know we’ll need to be at our best. We may have had the edge in the fixtures last season but Inveraray are a well organised side with a lot of quality so we’re expecting a challenge.
How has the transition to a new management team been?
The transition to a new management team has been really positive. All the boys have bought into what they’re trying to do and there’s a good feeling around the team.
