Iomain Cholmcille 1500 – Buaidh nan Gàidheal Buan
Thèid an tachartas spòrs Gàidhealach eadar-nàiseanta Iomain Cholmcille a chumail airson a’ chiad uair on tar-sgaoileadh COVID-19 aig Pàirc Pheterson, An Eochair, Glaschu Disathairne 12mh An t-Samhain.
Fon ainm Iomain Cholmcille 1500, bidh Gàidheil à Alba agus Eirinn a’ cruinneachadh airson taisbeanadh air leth de spòrs iomain agus ceanglaichean eachdraidheil eadar an dà dhùthaich a neartachadh agus a chomharrachadh. ‘S e 2021 a bh’ ann am Bliadhna Chaluim Chille 1500, ach le bhith a’ cumail an tachartais seo a-nis ann an 2022 tha e a’ comharrachadh ceann-bliadhna sònraichte don fharpais fhèin.
Tha Sean MacLeòid à Camanachd Leòdhais air a bhith an-sàs le Iomain Cholmcille bho thùs – “Tha sinn a’ còmharrachadh 15 bliadhna de dh’Iomain Cholmcille. Tha e doirbh a chreidsinn gu bheil e cho fada on a chaidh a’ chiad fhear a chumail san Òban ann an 2007. On uairsin, tha an tachartas air a dhol bho neart gu neart agus air a bhith ga chumail ann an Conamara, Gaoth Dobhair, an t-Eilean Sgitheanach agus An Gearasdan. ’S e seo an treas turas a tha e air a chumail ann an Glaschu.”
“Tha sinn gu math taingeil do Bhòrd na Gàidhlig agus Foras na Gaeilge airson taic a thoirt dhuinn thairis air an ùine sin, agus tha sinn air nochdadh uair as dèidh uair gur e sàr thachartas nan Gàidheal a th’ ann an Iomain Cholmcille. Bidh e a’ toirt cothrom sònraichte do dhaoine òga a bhith a’ cleachdadh Gàidhlig is Gaeilge ann an suidheachadh neo-fhoirmeil, spòrsail, ach le inbhe cudromach don spòrs ann.”
“Bha e duilich nach b’ urrainn dhuinn Iomain Cholmcille 1500 a chumail ann am Bliadhna Chaluim Chille ach tha sinn glè thoilichte an cothrom a bhith againn aon uair eile na ceanglaichean agus na càirdeasan eadar na Gàidheil ann an Alba is Èirinn a neartachadh a-rithist.”
“Tha sinn cuideachd glè thoilichte a bhith air ais ann an Glaschu agus a’ cur fàilte air CLG Micheál Breathnach ann an Glaschu airson a’ chiad uair.”
Tha Fir Uladh air Corn Cholmcille a thogail an dà uair eile a chaidh an fharpais a chumail ann am Baile Mòr nan Gàidheal. Bha an geam mòr mu dheireadh ann an Glaschu na shealladh iongantach, agus mar sin ‘s cinnteach gum bi latha sgoinneil eile an amharc.
Bidh fèill òigridh a’ ruith air an latha cuideachd. Bidh Iomain Cholmcille a’ ruith bho 10-4.
Bidh Mná Uladh a’ riochdachadh bhoireannaich na h-Eireann, agus bidh sgioba camogaidh Ghlaschu, Ceann Creige, a’ cluich mar aoighean.

Iomain Cholmcille 1500 – The lasting legacy of Gaelic shinty-hurling
The international Gaelic sports festival Iomain Cholmcille will be held for the first time since the COVID-19 Pandemic at Peterson Park, Yoker, Glasgow on Saturday 12th November.
Entitled Iomain Cholmcille 1500, Gaels from Scotland and Ireland will gather for a fantastic spectacle of shinty & hurling and to mark and strengthen the historical bonds between the two nations. 2021 marked 1500 years since the birth of St Columba, but holding the event a year later allows this event to also mark a special anniversary for this tournament.
Lewis Camanachd’s Sean MacLeod who has been involved since Iomain Cholmcille began said “We are marking 15 years of Iomain Cholmcille. It is hard to believe that it is so long since the very first one held in Oban in 2007. Since then the evetn has gone from strength to strength and has been held in Connemara, Gweedore, Skye, and Fort William. This is our third time hosting it in Glasgow.”
“We are very thankful to Bòrd na Gàidhlig and Foras na Gaeilge for supporting us over that period, and we have shown time and time again that Iomain Cholmcille is one of Gaeldom’s premier events. We provide a special opportunity to use Irish and Gaelic in a fun, informal environment, but with the status of an elite sporting event.”
“It was sad that we couldn’t hold Iomain Cholmcille 1500 during Bliadhna Chaluim Chille itself but we are very happy that we again have the opportunity to strengthen our bonds and friendships between Gaels in Scotland and Ireland again.”
“We are also very happy to be back in Glasgow and to be welcoming Micheál Breathnach GAA to Glasgow for the first time.”
The Fir Uladh hurling team have lifted the Corn Cholmcille trophy the last two times it has been held in “Baile Mòr nan Gaidheal”. The last game, held in 2019 as part of the Glasgow National Mòd was a splendid occasion and therefore another fantastic day of sport is in prospect.
In the women’s competition Mnà Uladh will represent Ireland, whilst Glasgow Camogie side Ceann Creige will be featured guests in two exhibition matches.
There will also be a youth festival held on the same day. The event will start from 10am until 4pm.
Alba have named two strong squads for a packed day. Catriona Grace and Kate Bradley are managing the women’s team, and Ally “Digg” Macdonald, Alex Dunnings and Angus MacInnes are in charge of the men’s select.
