Kilmory Mowi South 2 Success

Kilmory secured the Mowi South Division 2 title with a 3-0 victory over holders Bute II in Rothesay with goals from Euan Gilmour, Alec Cunningham and Bruce Johnstone enough to ensure that Kilmory could not be caught. Kilmory played a nearly flawless campaign, winning 13 of their 14 matches with their sole defeat coming away to Strachur-Dunoon in July. Across their 14 league games, they scored an average of 4.93 while conceding just 0.93.  Cunningham was the division’s top scorer with 22 goals in 14 games, just edging out teammate Johnstone (21). Kilmory’s work off the field has also been commended this year, the club is currently looking to expand its schools network as well as enrolling a large number of coaches in courses.

Mowi Media Award Winner, Cammy Middleton said: “A great mixture of squad consistency and blend of older heads and youth meant that many teams in the league and indeed across the country weren’t able to cope with Kilmory. They stormed their way to the South 2 title and had a great run in the Single Team Cup. Having marked Euan Gilmour this season I can vouch for his quality and the combination of Cunningham Johnstone and Leiper are very dangerous too.”

Following their final match of the season, the Mowi South Division 2 Trophy and Medals were handed over by Former Camanachd Association Director Ian MacPhee.

Kilmory Manager – Ronnie Campbell:

“Absolutely delighted for the lads. They trained really hard throughout the season and to go through league campaign suffering only one defeat is testament to all the effort they put in. Huge amount of credit has to go to our dedicated team of coaches at all levels within the club who works tirelessly to ensure this success has been delivered. Every single player deserves recognition for their dedication and commitment to the club.”

Kilmory Captain – Bruce Johnstone:

“Delighted for everyone involved with the club, it’s been a real effort from everyone involved. It was great to see the younger players really coming on and making a huge contribution. Really looking forward to playing in South division 1 again.  Well done to Ronnie and rest of backroom team for hard work over the season.”
