Kingussie High School Defend Robertson Cup Shinty Sixes

Kingussie High School defended the Robertson Cup Shinty Sixes today, Tuesday 5th November at Blairbeg Park, Drumnadrochit by defeating Charleston Academy in a close and exciting final.

The event for S1 to S3 pupils saw eleven teams from across the Highlands take part in the event, with some eighty eight players involved.

The group stages saw Kingussie High School, Charleston Academy, Lochaber High School and hosts Glen Urquhart Hight School claim the semi final spots.

Kingussie High School won through to the final with a 2 – 0 win against Glen Urquhart High School, while Charleston Academy claimed their spot by defeating Lochaber High School 4 – 2 in an end to end match.

Lochaber High School claimed third spot with a 2 – 0 victory against Glen Urquhart High School.

The main final was a close game with Kingussie High School racing into a 2 – 0 lead with both goals coming from James Coyle. Douglas Strang pulled one back for Charleston Academy, however there was no further scoring and Kingussie came out on top to claim the victory.

There was some consolation for Charleston Academy when Jay MacRae was awarded the player of the tournament.

The trophy and medals were presented by Donald Paul Mackintosh on behalf of Masonic Lodge Old Inverness Kilwinning St. John’s No. VI, who financially supported the competition.

Even organiser Allan MacLeod spoke on behalf of hosts Glen Urquhart High School and said; “We are most grateful to referee Ciaran Melens, to Glen Urquhart and Strathglass Shinty Clubs for their help in organising the day, to the schools for taking the time to attend the event and to Masonic Lodge Old Inverness Kilwinning St. John’s VI for their valuable financial support.”
