It’s the MacMaster Cup Final this Saturday, how are the squad feeling ahead of the game?

The lads are up for the final and keen to get going.  We’ve all trained hard over the summer and have been continuing to improve with every game.  We’re looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere of cup final day but are focused on doing the basics well and playing our best shinty.  We’ve played Lovat in a couple of tight games this year and we are all looking forward to what will be a fast and physical game.

Skye of course won the trophy last year, how brilliant was it to lift the cup?

After a heavy defeat to Newtonmore in 2023 it was a great feeling to overcome them in Fort William last year in a really challenging, end to end match.  We had a really loud support on the day and to be part of the team lifting the cup was a great feeling and a top sporting moment for me.  Although a few of that team have since moved on to the 17’s we have taken in experienced players and kept a strong core to the team.

Skye have scored 16 goals on their way to the final – how well do you feel the team has been playing?

The quality of competition this year has been really strong.  We ground out a tough extra time win against Glenurquhart to get to the semi against a strong and physical Kyles team and have not had an easy time of it.  As the team has gelled through the year we have become stronger and despite missing key players in some games have been able to call on younger players who have stepped up to the challenge really well.

Your coaches have praised your combination of strong work-rate, ball control and distribution – how do you feel that your shinty game has developed this year?

I am just loving playing shinty and continuing to work hard, learn from others and improve.  I’ve been really well supported by great coaches over the years and now being exposed to U17s matches and senior training with Skye Camanachd has shown me where I need to keep improving. The whole team continues to develop under Ally Macleod and it’s been a real team effort this season to get where we are.
