Mówi Challenge Cup Final - Badenoch vs Inverness

Carolann Innes Interview

It’s the biggest day in Women’s Shinty, as the WCA finals day comes to Newtonmore. The Mowi Challenge Cup is an exciting rematch of last year’s final, with National Division champions Badenoch looking to complete a league & cup double – however it’s the holders Inverness who stand in the way. Ahead of the match, we spoke to last year’s winning captain, Carolann Innes!

It’s a rematch of last year’s final as you look to make it two in a row, how is the mood in the squad ahead of the game?

The girls are very excited to be taking on Badenoch again in the Challenge Cup. We know it will be a tough match and hope it will be a great spectacle for both sets of supporters

Badenoch have shown throughout their league campaign how strong they are, what do you make of them as a team?

We rate Badenoch highly, they’re an excellent team with some great players. We’re still a young squad and will treat them with respect but we proved last year that we can hold our own – we finished runners up in our league this year so it should make a competitive match

A lot of your squad have made the step up to the first team this season, how good is to see Inverness developing so much young talent?

It’s fantastic to see our young players developing and stepping up to the first team! Big shout out to our coaches and the structure of Inverness Shinty Club that allows our girls to progress through the ranks.

You of course lifted the cup last year, run me through how you felt on the day..

Words can’t really describe the emotions I felt – having come so close a few times over the years, it was fantastic to finally lift the cup! I was so proud of my girls that managed to achieve it last year.
