Mowi Game of the Week - Bute vs GMA
Gordon Currie Interview
The race for second place in the Mowi National is hotting up with both Bute and GMA hot on Col-Glen’s tail with games in hand, and with both sides facing off on Saturday, we spoke to Bute’s goalkeeper Gordon Currie.
Gordon, a big game on Saturday as you welcome fellow promotion chasers, Glasgow Mid Argyll – how have the team been preparing ahead of the big match?
We have been training hard as we normally do, week in week out. Especially on Tuesday sessions which are taken by David McVey – say no more on that one!
It’s been a steady rise towards the top of the league for Bute this year, a big win at the start of August against Col Glen really blew open the promotion race, a win on Saturday will see you leapfrog them and be on the verge of promotion, how are the team managing the nerves that come with that?
To be honest we treat every game as the same wanting nothing but a win, we all know what is at stake on Saturday.
Two home games to end the season and you’ve only lost 1 game in the league on the island, how much confidence do you gain from playing at home?
It’s always a boost to win in front of a home crowd, we always try and make the meadows a tough place to come.
You have the joint best defence in the league this season, that must give you a lot of pride?
Definitely gives me a lot of pride as the backbone of the team we have jelled over the last couple of seasons and it’s great seeing benefits of all our hard work. At the end of the day everyone in the team plays their part.
