Mowi Game of the Week - Bute vs GMA
Calum McLay Interview
The race for second place in the Mowi National is hotting up with both Bute and GMA hot on Col-Glen’s tail with games in hand, and with both sides facing off on Saturday, we spoke to GMA’s top scorer Calum McLay.
Calum, a big game on Saturday as you travel to fellow promotion chasing Bute – how have the team been preparing ahead of the big match?
Preparations have been good, with training numbers staying high. We feel the intensity is at a level that is preparing us well to achieve a positive result.
A frustrating fortnight with back-to-back defeats to a rejuvenated Inveraray, how important is it to clear that from your mind ahead of the final games of the season?
We are all pretty disappointed with the last couple of results, but we have taken what positives there were and are looking forward to what should be a good game this Saturday.
Col Glen have set a target of 18 to catch, you’re currently 4 points behind that with 6 points up for grabs, is every game a cup final now?
Every game is massive at this time of the season. However, we are just focused on this weekend and what we need to do to get a result.
As I mentioned, Bute themselves are in that promotion hunt, what do you see as their strengths ahead of Saturday?
Bute are a solid team from front to back, and their position in the table at this point in the season reflects that. Playing down in Rothesay is never easy, but we are up for the challenge.
On a personal note, you are hitting a goal a game in the league this season, how have you found the campaign as a whole?
This season has definitely had its ups and downs. We have had a lot of our youngsters break through, which is great for the club going forward. Collectively, we want to be competing at the highest level, and we still have a great opportunity to achieve that.
