It’s a big one this Saturday, with Skye taking on neighbours Kinlochshiel as they both battle out at the top of the Mowi WCA Premier League. Skye have been in red-hot scoring form in recent games, and will be looking to continue this against the strongest defence in the division, and we spoke to Ilana Paterson to get her thoughts ahead of the game.
Skye host Kinlochshiel this weekend, how is the mood in the squad ahead of the game?
The whole team are really enjoying our shinty just now and having fun so we are just taking each game as it comes putting no pressure on ourselves but obviously it’s always great to get the win.
Skye have the best goal scoring record in the league, but Shiel have the best defensive record, what will it take to get the ball in the back of the net?
We have had some high scoring games but it’s always good to get a few different names on the score sheet each week. It’s great to see Sarah Yoxon sitting as top scorer just now though!
Does playing in derby games like these add an extra level of motivation to get a result?
We just treat every game the same and give it our best, it’s all been quite close this season which makes the league more exciting.
It’s very tight at the top and the early signs point towards a potential 3 way title race, do you think Skye have what it takes to keep the good form up?
It’s still quite early in the league so you never know what can happen but if we keep playing the way we have been it would be quite nice to bring some silverware back to the island.
