Mowi Game of the Week - Kingussie vs Fort William

Calum Grant Interview

This week’s Mowi Game of the Week is a rematch of the 2024 MacTavish cup final between Kingussie and Fort William, where both teams are still undefeated in the 2025 season. Ahead of the match we caught up with Kingussie’s 2024 Grand Slam winning captain Calum Grant.

You face Fort William who have so far won every match in the Mowi Premiership – do you envisage it being a touch match?

Yes,I think Fort William will be a tough game, they are going well and have a young squad full of confidence. We know from last year’s experience in the MacTavish Final and Camanachd semi-final the dangers they pose, so everyone will have to show up to get the right result on Saturday

It was an emphatic win against Caberfeidh at the weekend, does this give you confidence for this Saturday?

Yes, it was our best performance of the season and it was great to see Dylan, Eoin, Toby and Ruaridh and Roddy all on the scoresheet, as this will give them all a boost going into this Saturday.

What do you see as Fort William’s main threats, and how will you look to nullify these?

They are a young squad similar to ourselves, with a lot of pacy skillful forwards up front. Lachie Shaw and Victor Smith have caused us real problems before, so we will have to keep a tight ship at the back.

How did it feel to captain Kingussie to a grand slam last year, and how do you feel your own personal development went over the season?

It was an amazing feeling to achieve the success we did last year and having the captaincy was an added bonus, which I feel very lucky and honoured to have had. In terms of personal development, it was nerve wracking at the beginning of the season with the added responsibility, however as the season progressed It became normal and I enjoyed it.
