Mowi Game of the Week - Aberdour vs Dunadd

Rowan Cooper Interview

This week’s Mowi Game of the Week sees Dunadd make the long trip to Fife to face Aberdour in the WCA Mowi National League. Ahead of the match we caught up with Aberdour’s Rowan Cooper.

Aberdour are yet to win this season – do you think this could be the week you pick up the first win?

We’ve been working hard every week, and whilst the results haven’t gone our way so far, there’s a real belief in the squad. Each game is a new opportunity, and we’re focused on putting in a strong performance. If we stick to our game plan and play to our strengths, there’s no reason this can’t be the week we get that first win.

You’ve scored in your last two games – can you keep that form going against Dunadd?

It’s always a good feeling to get on the scoresheet, but more importantly, I just want to keep contributing to the team however I can. Dunadd will be a tough challenge, but I’ll be looking to carry that momentum into the game and hopefully make an impact again.

What do you see as Dunadd’s strengths, and how will you look to exploit these?

Dunadd are a well-drilled side with a solid defence and good discipline across the park. They don’t make it easy for teams, so we know we’ll have to be sharp. Our focus will be on moving the ball quickly, keeping the pressure on, and trying to disrupt their shape to create space and chances.

You will welcome Uddingston to Silver Sands next month in the Mowi Challenge Cup – do you think Aberdour can go on a cup run this year?

The cup’s always an exciting competition, and getting the chance to play at Silver Sands is a big boost for us. Uddingston will be a tough test, but if we put in a performance and play the way we know we can, there’s no reason we can’t aim for a good cup run this year. The belief is definitely there.
