The Women’s Shinty season throws up for the first time this weekend. As such, this week’s MOWI Game of the Week is Inverness vs Lovat which is due to take place on Sunday. After chatting with Lovat star Laura Gallacher we caught up with Inverness’ Caitlin Mutch.

What has it been like to be back training after such a long layoff?

Training has been good after not being able to for so long.  Meeting up with teammates and being able to hit a ball with each other again was amazing although we were rusty.

How are the squad shaping up ahead of the 2021 season?

We have lots of new/younger girls who are keen to have their first season playing in the woman’s team which is great to see.  The rest of us are eager to get back to competive matches.

How have your preseason matches gone so far?

We have had three women’s friendlies so far losing two and winning one but all were solid performances for the team and adapting to 10 a side took the first two games but by the third I think we had it figured out.  They have been key to introducing some of our new girls to the women’s game.

Last time you played Lovat was the 2019 Mowi Challenge Cup Final. Is there an element of looking for revenge this weekend?

Not really to be honest I think we didn’t perform well that day and I personally would like to play a bit better but this season we are looking to nurture and develop but if we could get a few goals in against them it wouldn’t feel bad.
