Mowi Game of the Week - Skye vs Kinlochshiel
John Gillies Interview
It’s a derby this Saturday, as Kinlochshiel make the trip over the bridge to take on Skye in Portree. It’s been a tricky start to the season for Skye so far, but with a win and draw in their last two games the islanders will be looking to build on that this Saturday. Ahead of the game we spoke to John Gillies to get his thoughts.
John, it’s been a bit of a turbulent start to the season but you got a good win against Inveraray on Saturday, we saw Skye kick on last year after a slow start, more of the same?
It’s fair to say it’s been a slow start to the season, which is often the case, but just gotta take the momentum from our last two results and two clean sheets on the bounce and keep taking each game week by week.
Local derby this weekend, how much more spice does that add to proceedings?
Everyone always looks forward to derby day. With it being a very stop start season for us so far, this is the perfect fixture to kick our season off with June being an important month to set the rest of our season up.
Kinlochshiel have started fairly well, how would assess them as a team?
Yeah they’ve had a decent start to the season. A physical side but so are we. They have plenty of goals upfront but we know if we play our own game, like we have in the most recent derbies, we can take care of it ourselves.
The club have been very unfortunate with some key injuries at the start of the campaign, how have you managed this?
Sadly yes we’ve been very unlucky this season as far as injuries go. Never had the chance to keep the same 12 week in week out. Saying that we’re getting more and more boys back now and as I said, this is an important few weeks for us, starting on Saturday.
