Struan, big cup final on Saturday, how are you and the team dealing with the nerves going into Saturday?
We are training as usual and have told the boys not to drink on Friday night so that everyone can remain level headed for Saturday. There’s always going to be nerves going into a final that’s just part of the game.
Just 4 weeks ago you played Shiel at An Aird ending in a 1-1 draw, what did you make of them that day and what kind of match are you expecting on Saturday?
Kinlochshiel are a very strong team, they’re dangerous in attack and solid at the back getting a point off them is a very difficult thing to do. But we believe we can match anyone on our day.
Fort have only lost 1 of their last 7 matches, does that give you confidence that you can get over the line going into Saturday?
Having good momentum is very important in shinty and winning these games has been very good for the team. But anything can happen on Saturday as in a final it’s all about showing up on the day
The last time Fort played the Strathdearn Cup Final they won against Newtonmore in 2019, what would it mean to you and the club as a whole to repeat that success?
Winning this for the club would be massive. Fort William hasn’t seen a trophy since 2019 at senior level. It will also be very important for the younger boys in our team as it will keep everyone motivated at the club and hopefully push us onto a strong start next season.
There’s been a lot of variation in Fort’s squad each week, evidenced by a whopping 22 different goal scorers so far this season, do you think that has been an issue or does it keep you unpredictable?
I don’t see this as an issue at all. We’ve had very good numbers at second team level this year. If anything I see this a massive positive. Means we are able to score from anywhere on the field. As I believe I think one of our full backs (Ryan Boyle) has bagged two goals this season
