Mowi Game of the Week - Aberdour vs Badenoch II
Lexi Farquhar Interview
It’s the penultimate round of the inaugural Mowi WCA National Division this weekend, and our focus is on the match between recently crowned champions Badenoch II and Aberdour. Ahead of the match, we spoke to the 2024 North 2 Player of the Year Lexi Farquhar!
Lexi, Badenoch II are the first champions of the new Mowi National League – how successful do you feel the season has been for the squad?
I think are team has come a long way and even coming into this league we stood strong against other teams that we had never played against. We are lucky to have had a big squad of players to choose from and have been able to put of a strong team out each week. We couldn’t have asked for a better first season in the national league!
Your final game is against an Aberdour squad who have shown they know where the back of the net is – what do you make of them as a team?
When we played against them it was a hard fought game with them going ahead first. They have some very experienced players and a strong squad all around. Sunday won’t be an easy game.
How have you found the new league format – have the girls enjoyed playing teams they didn’t previously face as often?
We have really enjoyed playing in this new league, with each game being challenging. There was a few teams that we have never faced before so we didn’t know what to expect.
The focus will now turn towards the Mowi Challenge Cup, where you’ll be facing the holders Inverness – how much are you looking forward to playing in the final?
Now that we have experienced a finals day, I feel more confident going into the game. I think our team has worked really hard on fitness to prepare for all our games this year and there is a big push to be as fit as possible for the final.
After the game the senior team will compete in the Valerie Fraser – do you think your young teammates can be the ones competing for senior trophies in the future
I definitely think the girls are capable and if they keep working hard there is no doubt they will be there in the future.
35 goals for yourself so far this season – how do you feel that your game has developed this season?
I feel like as a team we have grown closer which definitely helps out on the pitch, by trusting each other and learning how each player plays. I believe the fitness has helped a lot in our games, showing when it’s tough and it’s the last few minutes to go, we dig deep and that’s where our stamina comes in. This team work all helps me score goals!
