Mowi Game of the Week - Badenoch vs Skye

Rona Stewart Interview

Badenoch will host Skye this Saturday, where a win could hand Badenoch their 5th successive league title. Ahead of the game we spoke to Badenoch’s Rona Stewart.

It’s six wins on the bounce for Badenoch going into the weekend – how much confidence does that give you?

We’ve had a run of tough games so it’s good to keep the momentum going. We’re going into Sunday’s game off the back of a great result away to GMA but we know that we’ll have to fight hard again this week regardless of previous results.

If you beat Skye and other results go your way you will be champions once again, what kind of motivation is that for you?

It’s always good to have something to aim for but we treat every game like a league decider. The league has been tight this year which is what we want and hopefully women’s shinty continues in the right direction. We are at the stage of the season where every point counts and we know as a squad that we can’t afford to slip up if we want to get something from this season.

Skye were one of few teams to run you close this year, what do you make of them as a side?

Skye are such a fit team and have some very skilful players. They have a lot of experience and most of their team have played together for years now. The younger girls that have come through are equally as effective and playing them is never easy.

With the seconds also flying high in the league it could be a famous double for Badenoch, what is the mood like at the club just now?

There is a buzz around the club but it’s been that way all season. Both teams have been working hard from preseason until now and I know that will continue until the end of the season. Both teams are still taking each game one at a time but the momentum from the past few weeks is carrying the whole club forwards.
