Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup Semi Final - Oban Camanachd vs Newtonmore
Rory Kennedy Interview
An Aird is the venue this Saturday as Newtonmore face off against Oban Camanachd to determine who will battle it out against Kingussie in the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup Final in September. Ahead of the game we spoke to Newtonmore’s 2017 cup winning captain Rory Kennedy.
It’s a trip to Fort William to face Oban Camanachd in the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup semis – how are you feeling ahead of the game?
Looking forward to it, it’s our first Camanachd Cup semi final in 6 years which is way too long for our club, so it’s good to be back competing at the tail end of these competitions.
A win would set up the first Badenoch derby in a Camanachd Cup Final in 14 years – does this add extra motivation to win on Saturday?
To get to the Camanachd Cup final would be massive for us as a team and obviously a Badenoch derby would be a great day for all involved, but we have to keep all our focus on this week and making sure we give our all against a very good Oban side.
Your winning streak came to an end in the Macaulay semis last time out – how important is it to bounce back with a strong performance on Saturday?
We were disappointed to lose our winning streak and obviously getting knocked out of the Macaulay, we know as a team we let ourselves down that day and didn’t perform to anywhere near the standards of the previous games, so we are determined to put that behind us with a strong showing this week.
There was only 1 goal in it last time you faced Oban Camanachd which shows how evenly matched the sides are – what do you make of them as a team?
Oban have had a great season so far and it’s no surprise to see them at the top of the table. We expect them to be well drilled and tough to break down on Saturday so we know we’ll need to be at our best to get through.
