Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup Semi Final - Kingussie vs Fort William

Cam Stephen Interview

The quest for the greatest prize in Shinty continues this weekend, as Kingussie take on Fort William at Bught Park in the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup Semi Finals. Ahead of the big match we spoke to Fort’s Cam Stephen.

It’s a trip up to Inverness to face Kingussie in the Tulloch Home Camanachd Cup semis – how are you feeling ahead of the game?

In a game like this you have to feel confident no matter what. There is a good buzz about the club and all the boys have their heads screwed on and are ready for battle.

How have you found the step up in Divisions this year?

Personally stepping up to the premiership, I’ve had a slow start and after a few conversations with some team mates, they said my head wasn’t in it, but I feel I have turned things around as we passed the halfway mark in the season. That being said, the team as a whole have been working hard and winning game by game being the underdogs and accepting that no game is going to be easy.

As well as being in the semi final, Fort sit top of the league – how important a season can this be for the club?

This season will be massive for the club getting another run at the Camanachd Cup and a chance to win the league in the same season, it will be sensational. Some say the slam is still on, it’s just not as grand.

How do you think the team will handle the pressure of the occasion, especially with it being televised live on BBC ALBA?

The team will handle the pressure well, we were in the semi final last year as well and everyone thought it would be a walk over for Kingussie, but we showed resilience throughout and proved a point.

Your teammate and brother Arran Stephen will be off to Ireland the day after the game for the RI Cruden under 17’s tour – you were on the tour yourself in 2022 – how big was it in developing your game?

Playing for the Scotland squad was an absolute ball, and it definitely made me improve my fitness.
