Mowi Game of the Week - Skye vs Badenoch

Sarah Yoxon Interview

It’s league leaders vs top scorers in the WCA Mowi Premier League this weekend, as Skye host Badenoch. With both teams going into the game off the back of high scoring victories, both defences are sure to be tested, and ahead of the game we spoke to Skye’s Sarah Yoxon.

Skye host Badenoch this weekend, how are you feeling ahead of the game?

Looking forward to welcoming Badenoch back to Pairc nan Laoch. We’ve had some great matches against them here on Skye, and I have no doubt that this Saturday will be another one.

What will the team need to do to come away with a positive result?

For us to come away with a positive result we will have to be clinical up front. We are a creative team and we make good scoring opportunities for ourselves, but this weekend we will have to make those opportunities count.

Skye are the top scorers in the division and have hit 9 in the last 2 games, is confidence high right now?

I’m confident in saying we are enjoying playing the way we have been playing. Hopefully that will continue going forward into the rest of the season. I think as a team we play better shinty when we relax and enjoy it, rather than thinking of the possible outcomes.

You’ve hit 7 in said games, are you enjoying your shinty right now?

I am enjoying my shinty right now yeah. I never planned to get this much game time after coming back from having my baby girl, so to be playing as much as I am, I’m delighted (although my body says differently after each game). The girls in the team are such a laugh, I’m grateful that they are towing me along for the ride. The goals are just a bonus.

Can this team keep up the good form and bring silverware back to the island this season?

I have no doubt there will be some challenges to come for us, but I can guarantee we will give everything we have for every game. Bringing back some silverware to the island is certainly a goal for the club this season.
