Mowi Marvels: Lexi Farquhar

Lexi how are you feeling as you head into the Mowi Challenge Cup final against Inverness II this Saturday?

I feel quite nervous as it is my first cup final and we don’t normally play on front of a crowd. I am really excited to see how our team deals with the pressure. Lots of us are quite young so we have never experienced something like this before. I am excited for the challenge.

Badenoch II Inverness are closely matched in the league with just 1 point between the two sides are you expecting a close game on Saturday?

I think it will be very close game. When we played Inverness last in the league, Inverness did not have their full team. Inverness also have the benefit of the experience of playing in the cup last year.

How has your experience at the girls performance camp in the USA help shape your shinty skills and approach to the game?

The coaches broke down the skills we needed really well which helped give us confidence in our approach to the game. We got lots of game time on the camp and experienced different weather conditions to test how our fitness would hold up. It was really good to meet lots of the girls who we play against and get to know them better. The shinty camp was such a brilliant experience to be a part of. So much fun!

What do you think will be the biggest challenge in facing Inverness II, and how is the team planning to overcome it?

Some of the girls from Inverness have played in the last challenge cup and they also have some strong first team players who have experience against very tough opponents. We will try to overcome this by encouraging everyone and working hard for each other as a team.

Lastly with both the Challenge Cup and the Valerie Fraser cup on the same day, what does it mean to you personally to represent Badenoch at this level?

I feel very proud to represent Badenoch in the finals and in shinty after watching my mum and her team for so many years since I was little. I was three when Badenoch won their first Valerie Fraser cup at the Eilan in Newtonmore and my mum was the captain that season. I look up to a lot of the girls at our club and they give me a lot of encouragement. I love our coaches. Scott, Iain and Rona are so good at explaining things and motivating us. I hope we can make club history for both first and second teams to win the cups this weekend.
