After Sunday’s semi finals, the 4 finalists for the Women’s Mowi Cup Finals are now confirmed! Inverness II will face off against Mowi National leaders Badenoch II in a bid to defend their crown as Challenge Cup winners, before a rematch of last year’s Valerie Fraser sees Badenoch take on holders Lochaber.
In the Challenge Cup semis, Inverness had to fight back as Aberdour took a 2-0 lead early on, courtesy of goals from Megan McFarlane & Katie Booth, with Kamryn Hughes, Katie MacMillan & Isla McNeil all finding the back of the net before half-time to make it 3-2. In the end it finished 10-4, with Hughes hitting 4, whilst McNeil & MacMillan both hit hat-tricks. Over in Oban it was plain sailing for Badenoch, who hit 9 past Dunadd courtesy of Lexi Farquhar (2), Catrin MacLeod, Jessica Nagle (2) & Orla Olds (4), whilst Eilidh Cameron hit her 28th goal of the season in a consolation for Dunadd.
Badenoch booked their place in their 2nd consecutive Valerie Fraser Final courtesy of goals from Zoe Reid (2), Megan Ralph, Hope Borthwick & Kirsty Deans, whilst Rhianna Kirk netted a consolation for Skye. At The Dell it was a much more competitive game, as the game finished 3-3 in normal time with goals from Leah Maxtone & Mairi Duncan (2) for Lochaber & Lucy McNulty & Ali MacVicar (2) for GMA forcing extra time. Leah Maxtone may have just won the game for Lochaber before Katie Drain scored late on to send the game to penalties, which went in the favour of the red & white of Lochaber.
This sets up two rematches of last year’s finals at The Eilan, Newtonmore on the 6th of September. The Valerie Fraser Final will be live on BBC Alba, and will form part of the Women’s Mowi Finals Day, with events & catering to be confirmed in due time.
