The Camanachd Association is excited to share that Shinty’s Story – Sgeul na Camanachd has been nominated for a Scottish Design Award. Delivered in conjunction with Lateral North and made possible thanks to funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the exhibition tells the story of Scotland’s community sport and has transformed Bught Park into a year round visitor attraction.

Crafted after many months of research involving every corner of the shinty community both past and present, stories and artefacts ranging from the victorian era to the current day have been archived and presented in an engaging manner to provide accessibility to all demographics. Moreover, the exhibition now stands one of the largest experiences delivered in both English and Gaelic, a driving force in linking Scotland’s native language to its sport.

The road to opening the exhibition was a long one and not without its complications, but all of those involved in the Heritage Committee formed to oversee the task, as well as the wonderful workforce at Lateral North can be proud of the finished product, underscored by its nomination for such a prestigious award.

The awards take place on Wednesday 24 June 2026 and we will all be eagerly awaiting the outcome, but in the meantime be sure to visit the exhibition if you haven’t already – it’s open at Bught Park Pavilion, Inverness from 10-4 with entry via donation.
