Strathglass Capture Shinty History on New Website
Strathglass are marking 145 years as a constituted club with a relaunch of their club website https://www.strathglassshintyclub.co.uk
The Strath’s old website had fallen into abeyance and a new website has been created by former Strath player Roy MacKenzie of MacKenzie Business Solutions and Eoghan Stewart. The site brings together the history of shinty in the Strathglass area before and after the historic establishment of the club under Captain Archibald MacRa Chisholm all the way up to the present day.
Building on the work of Hugh Barron, John Willie Campbell and Steve Harvey, who all produced books about the club’s history, it is set to be a treasure trove of information and rarely seen photos from the club’s longstanding place at the heart of its community.
It will also be a place to keep tabs on the club’s lottery, as well as the place to find the club’s Strathstrong – Mental Health and Wellbeing policy, which other clubs are free to adapt for their own local circumstances. Mental Health is a major priority for Strathglass and they were awarded the MOWI Social Responsibility Award in 2023 for their work with mental health and suicide awareness, including the annual An Solas Mòr – Lawrence Jones Memorial Walk.
The website also has a Gaelic section produced with the support of Iomain Cholmcille’s Camanachd na h-Alba project bringing the club back to the roots of its founder Captain Chisholm who was a proud Gael.
You can also find all 11 episodes, and additional material from the club’s MOWI Innovation Award winning Strathstrong documentary series about the life of the club.
Club President, Roddie MacLennan said “It’s vitally important for our club to maintain our history in a way that is modern and attractive. Throughout our history Strathglass have had to punch above our weight whilst also bringing our communities together. Having the photos from days gone by as well as things such as the Mental Health and Wellbeing policy and the recent documentary all in one place is a big part of that.”
News and updates will be more readily found on the club’s various social media platforms which can all be found via links on the website as well.
If anyone has any photos of anecdotes about Strathglass Shinty Club history please make contact via the website.
