Strathspey Camanachd have intimated to the Camanachd Association their withdrawal from competing in the Mowi North Division 2.
Both Newtonmore and Kingussie supported Strathspey with some of the youngsters from the Badenoch giants joining Strathspey at the start of the Season, however these players have now transferred back to their parent clubs, in addition some players have transferred elsewhere resulting in Strathspey not having sufficient players to complete the season.
We acknowledge the efforts that Strathspey have made to field a team and compete in the league, and we appreciate the passion they have shown for the sport. The Camanachd Association have been working closely with Strathspey for a number of years, this collaboration led to the appointment of Strathspey’s Regional Development Officer post through sportscotland’s DCI scheme. The statement from the Club advised that it is their intention to begin to build a team from youth, the Camanachd Association will support the club and the DCI RDO in this endeavour through the work of Regional Development Officer (East), Alaina MacLennan.
The club’s contribution to the sport is valued and appreciated and we extend our sincere best wishes to Strathspey, and hope that they find the necessary resources and support to resume their participation in Senior shinty at the earliest opportunity.
In order to provide clarity for other clubs in Mowi North Division 2, we would like to confirm that as per Byelaw 3.5.4:
If a club withdraws from the League without fulfilling their fixtures the points and goals scored and conceded from their fulfilled fixtures shall be removed from the league.
