W M Donald Game of the Week - Strathglass vs Glenurquhart
Daniel MacLean Interview
The W M Donald MacTavish Cup throws up for 2026 this weekend, and we’re focusing in on a local derby as high flying Glenurquhart take on Strathglass. Ahead of the match, we spoke to the Glen’s Daniel MacLean.
It’s a short trip to Cannich this weekend, how is the mood in the squad ahead of the game?
Morale is high in the Glen squad as usual, we have good numbers attending training and have been able to field a fairly consistent team this year by avoiding injuries so far.
Glen have got off to a strong season, what’s going well so far?
It’s still very early in the season but we are happy with the start we have made, I think our defence and centre line were always pretty consistently strong but this year our forward line seems to be scoring a higher percentage of the chances that we are creating, That builds confidence and takes a bit of pressure of the rest of the team.
Are you confident of keeping this going and putting in a strong cup run?
We would love to put together a cup run as that ensures that we get to play more matches and possibly test ourselves against teams from outwith our own league, but we will not get ahead of ourselves as we know that Strathglass have some good players who will have ambitions of their own.
You’re sat on 8 goals for the season so far, what are your aims for the season?
My aims for the season is to play as much shinty as possible, to do that I’ve got to try and make sure I’m selected for every match, fit enough to play the full match and disciplined enough to avoid bookings and suspensions. This gives me the best opportunity to score and create as many goals as possible for the Glen. If I manage to pull all this together, I’d like to be considered for the north u21s squad as it’s a big target of mine.
