It was with deep regret and great sadness that on the evening of Tuesday 8th July 2025 we learned that Hamish Keir had passed away earlier that day at his home in Muir of Ord at the age of 83 years. Hamish had been unwell for some time.
Hamish played for Caberfeidh during the 1960s initially for the 2nd team and eventually for the 1st team where he became a regular until he sustained an ankle injury. He didn’t play much after that.
He was for a time involved with Muir of Ord Football Club where he served as their President.
In the mid-1980s Hamish again took an active interest in Caberfeidh Shinty Club, becoming a very enthusiastic and hard-working Committee member as well as one of the Club’s sponsors. He served as Club President from 1998 to 2006 during which time he conducted the business of the Club in an excellent and business-like manner. He thereafter continued his involvement with the Club as a Committee member right up until the time of his passing.
Hamish’s family have a long history of service to shinty. His father Jimmy, and his brothers Andy and Jock, were all members of Caberfeidh teams of the 1920s and 1930s during the Club’s hugely successful period. Hamish’s son James played for a time for Strathglass while his grandson Scott played for Beauly.
Hamish will be hugely missed by all members of the Club, and their deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Mina, daughter Madeleine and her husband Murdo, son James, grandchildren Scott and Morven and their respective partners, and to great-grandchildren Ceilidh, Aria and Hamish in their sad loss.
