You travel up to face Col-Glen in the Balliemore Cup – how are you feeling ahead of the game?

The GMA team are definitely up for the game.  Being the current holders of the trophy we definitely have a target on our back to retain it. 

GMA were unsuccessful against Col-Glen earlier in the season but your 6-0 win over them last season shows your capability against them – does this give the team confidence going into Saturday?

We take each week as it comes. I have massive respect for Col Glen who have definitely cemented their place in the national league. Our current form shows we can complete with the best teams in the country so I don’t fear any opposition. 

You got off to a flyer in your cup defence against Kilmallie with a 6-2 win – what do you think worked well that day?

Killmallie are a tough opposition, especially when they score first. The boys just stuck to the plan and didn’t waver from it. 

You’re into your second season at GMA now – how have you found the move?

I have found the move quite rewarding coming into a younger defence and coaching on the role has been beneficial for everyone (at least I hope so)! Picking up the Balliemore Cup for the first time in GMA’s history with a MoTM performance will be one of my greatest shinty achievements.

Meanwhile GMA ladies will host Kinlochshiel in the Valerie Fraser – what do you make of their chances in the cup?

The ladies team are looking great on their day. The Premiership for the ladies is so tight with nothing really separating the teams. The games are exciting to watch and it’s amazing to see the youth players coming through the ladies game and really making a name for themselves. I know my partner and Ladies captain Ali has her squad’s sights firmly set on the Valerie Fraser this year – I don’t see any reason why they wouldn’t be lifting it.
