National Head Coach Roles Open for Applications
The Camanachd Association and the Women’s Camanachd Association are delighted to invite applications for two pivotal voluntary positions: Head Coach of the Men’s National Team and Head Coach of the Women’s National Team. These roles will lead Scotland’s best into the annual Mowi Shinty/Hurling and Shinty/Camogie internationals against Ireland from 2025 to 2027.
These appointments sit at the very heart of international shinty – building on the recent success, this is not just a coaching role, but a chance to shape the national identity of the sport, develop elite-level performance, and inspire the next generation.
Willie MacDonald, Vice-President & Coaching Director, said:
“These are prestigious appointments, steeped in tradition but with modern expectations. We’re looking for two leaders who can galvanise, mentor and push our top athletes to compete and succeed on the international stage. There’s an incredible opportunity here to make a lasting contribution to shinty.”
Karen Williamson, President of the Women’s Camanachd Association, added:
“This is an exciting moment for women’s shinty. The Head Coach will play a huge part in strengthening our international programme, building on recent progress and helping establish shinty as a serious force in the women’s cross-code game. We’re excited to see fresh energy and vision in this space.”
Key tasks for both roles include player selection and development, training programme delivery, and liaising with clubs, coaches, and governing body staff. A strong commitment to inclusion, high standards of conduct, and collaborative working will be essential.
Whether you’re a seasoned shinty coach with a track record of success, or someone ready to bring passion, structure, and leadership to the highest level – this is your chance to step forward.
