Saturday the 21st of June saw Peterson Park in Glasgow host the 2025 MacQuisten Cup Final. Oban Camanachd and Glasgow Mid Argyll were competing for the title in what was a repeat of the 2024 final. The teams were piped out onto the field led by the officials on the day of referee Craig Scott and goal judges Jamie Paterson and Alison Howatt.
As the game got underway it was GMA who had the slight territorial advantage in the opening 5 minutes without creating a huge amount against a competitive Camanachd defence who were led well throughout the game by Levi Armour.
It was Oban Camanachd who would take the lead however when a long ball up the pitch was taken in by Innes Mackay who took a touch to his left before firing an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.
The next spell of the game was competed for majorly in the middle area of the pitch with both sides creating half chances for themselves. Most Notable of these chances were when Calum Robb hit the side netting of the Camanachd goal on 27 minutes and shortly after Scott Campbell of Oban collected the ball short from a corner dribbled past 2 men before firing the ball just over the crossbar. This took the game into the half time break with Oban Camanachd holding a 1 goal advantage.
The 2nd half began much the same as the first half with the majority of the play being in the middle of the park Oban had the first real chance of the 2nd half when Daniel Duffy struck past the right hand post on 55 minutes.
A minute later from the resulting goal hit GMA created a chance after Oban failed to clear their lines and Calum Robb hit a well struck shot from around 20 yards beating the keeper to his left hand side to take the teams back level.
GMA continued to push for the lead in what was their best spell of the game and GMA captain Ruairidh MacSween hit the base of the post on 65 minutes.
The 10 minute spell of pressure paid off for GMA though when on 69 minutes Scott Craig managed to get on the end of a rebound from the Oban Camanachd keeper giving the Glasgow side the lead. With just over 10 minutes to play.
After the goal it was Oban who were pushing for the equaliser with the GMA keeper making a smart save from an effort from distance coming across his goal and in the last few minutes Camanachd captain Scott Campbell pushed up the pitch and despite hitting 2 quality strikes both found the side netting meaning Glasgow held on for the narrow victory.
Angus MacInnes from the Celtic Society along side Graeme MacDiarmid from the Camanachd Association presented the medals and trophy to both sides with Glasgow Mid Argyll captain Ruairidh MacSween lifting the trophy his side in what was a very even game which could have gone either way.
