The Camanachd Association are the worlds governing body for shinty. We believe shinty has the power to bring communities together like no other sport and we strive to help existing and new communities experience this. Shinty is a a vibrant part of our national culture and recognised as Scotland’s iconic community sport. By working closely with our members and partners we aim to lead, support and inspire everyone in shinty to develop and do amazing things.

The successful candidate will lead the organisation’s Development Team and be a key member of Senior Management. The candidate will deputise for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in their absence and be responsible to the CEO and the Board of Directors.

  • Hours: 37.5 hours per week – Full-time with flexible working to accommodate weekends and evenings.
  • Base: Inverness based – Home working initially
  • Salary: £32,000 per annum

The purpose of the post:

Ensure all aspects of development are progressed in line with the annual operational plan, allocated development budget and strategic plan for shinty.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide effective leadership, support and line management for the development team, including regular appraisals, identification of relevant training needs and ongoing support.
  • Manage and support Regional Development Officers in their planning, organisation and implementation of the agreed operational priorities and strategy.
  • Lead the development of relevant partnerships and work closely with key agencies, including sportscotland, Scottish local authorities and leisure trusts.
  • Lead on the development and implementation of the playing pathway for shinty.
  • Lead on the development and implementation of a relevant audit and accreditation scheme for clubs and associations.
  • Lead on the development and promotion of strategic priorities through a programme of relevant training, opportunities and materials for staff, clubs and the wider shinty workforce (including coaches, match officials, club administrators and volunteers)
  • Lead on the development and implementation of relevant policy areas, including Equality and Anti-doping and ensure full compliance with all statutory legislation.
  • Lead on the development and implementation of the CA’s Pitch & Facilities Strategy.
  • Lead on the development of appropriate minimum quality standards for shinty playing equipment
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of the Development Strategy on an ongoing basis and report progress to the CEO, Senior Management Team and Board. Provide recommendations for future development.
  • Support CEO and board with decision making with appropriate data management and performance monitoring in delivering and developing the overall strategic plan and vision for the sport.

General responsibilities include:

  • Contribute towards key strategic projects as appropriate
  • Other duties related to the post of National Development Manager as may be delegated.
  • Contribute as appropriate to promotion of our work using Camanachd Association channels, newsletter, website and other publications as required.
