London Camanachd mark the 125th anniversary of the famous World Cup of Shinty match which was played at their old home pitch Stamford Bridge in 1897. The opposition to London was Beauly who ran out as winners 6-1 on the day in what was described by the press at the time as a largely one-sided affair which coincided with the annual London Highland Festival where numerous other athletic, sporting and musical events took place. Numerous Highland aristocrats, landed gentry and politicians turned out to watch the match with the Marquis of Tullibardine presenting prizes to the winners and the match refereed by the Count de Serra Largo.
This seems a fitting year for London Camanachd and other exiled Scots to relaunch the London Highland Festival which will take place on Saturday 3rd September at Tir Chonaill Gaels in Greenford featuring events in shinty, bagpiping, highland dancing, music amongst others.
