Mowi Youth Game of the Week - Rockfield vs Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh

Rockfield Captains Interview

This Saturday, the action all throws up at Bught Park with the MacKay Cup Final between Rockfield and Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh, we spoke to Rockfield joint captains, Jack and Oliver ahead of the big game!

Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh had a strong win against Newtonmore – how are you preparing to take them on in the final?

Oliver: We have been working hard so now we just need to get into the right mindset where we play the game we all love and do our best.

What would it mean to you and your team to lift the MacKay Cup at Bught Park?

Oliver: It’s great to be in the Mackay cup final again, we were in it 2 years ago but didn’t lift the cup. It’s the biggest tournament in primary shinty and winning it with all my friends would be the best way to finish primary school. We have been trying to get another shot at this final as it means so much to all of us!

What was going through your head when the final whistle blew against St Columba’s and you knew Rockfield were heading to the MacKay Cup Final?

Jack: I was so excited when the final whistle blew!  – I couldn’t believe we were going to the final again. We made it two years ago, but sadly we lost , so it feels extra special to have another chance at winning the MacKay cup especially as it is my last year playing for Rockfield. I was really proud of everyone on the team we all have worked so hard this year, and it felt like all our effort and training paid off”

As joint captain, what do you think makes your team special?

Jack: I think what makes our team special is how well we work together. We all support each other and keep going, even when it gets tough. Everyone gives 100%, and we’ve become really close friends.  We’ve been determined to get to the final and I think that’s helped motivate us

We are really excited and ready to give it our best!
