Mowi Game of the Week - Dunadd vs Glenurquhart - Single Team Cup Final
Hazel Hunter Interview
This Sunday we will be treated to the first ever women’s Single Team Cup Final between Premier League side Glenurquhart and high flying National team Dunadd. In order to get the inside scoop we sat down with Glenurquhart’s Hazel Hunter.
Games from Noon at An Aird, Fort William.
Glenurquhart will compete in the first edition of the Single Team Cup final, how are the team looking forward to the game?
We’re really looking forward to the Cup final this Sunday! We’ve all been working hard with extra training and building up our fitness so we’re feeling prepared and ready to go.
How good an addition to the women’s shinty calendar are the Single Team & Premier Cups?
The new cups are a great opportunity for women’s shinty. It gives us more chances to get game time and for clubs with smaller player pools, the single team cup is a brilliant way to get involved and enjoy a bit of a cup run.
You’ve not played Dunadd since 2024, how do you prepare to face a team in a situation like this?
We know Dunadd are going to be strong, you can see by their scores in the league games they know what they’re doing – especially up front. Our managers Fred and Rory have been introducing new drills which should come in helpful this weekend.
You have a significant head to head advantage over Dunadd in those two games, 14-3 on aggregate, Zoe Smith scored 10 of those, but is taking a break from shinty, what kind of faith do you have in the rest of your fellow forwards to make up for her absence?
We are looking forward to having Zoe back after her break but I’ve got a lot of faith in the new wave of players coming through at the club. The more we’ve played together, the stronger we’ve become as a unit, and you can really see that confidence growing. We’re still developing, but we’re excited about what we can do and hopefully we can put that into practice this weekend.
